Take your Hydraulic Cylinder to a Reliable Repair Station to Deter From Premature Dying

Hydraulic cylinders are one of the crucial equipment that supports several applications in manufacturing, construction, refinery, and power generation industries. However, these are the most overlooked item that works 24/7 without proper care and maintenance. Continuous use without appropriate attention often leads to unexpected failures. This in turn affects the overall operations of a plant. In such unforeseen situations, buying a new one would not be a good solution as it involves immense expenditure. Hence, in order to tackle such situations and to regain your cylinders operational excellence, consider taking the cylinder to a reliable service/repairing center.

A Close Inspection of the Parts to Find Out Problems

First and foremost, technicians in hydraulic cylinder repair centers disassemble the unit and closely examine its parts to ascertain the root cause of the failure. The vital parts of the cylinder that are rigorously checked include:

  • Piston Seal – The condition of the piston seal is examined thoroughly in case the cylinder barrel is oversized or bulged. If the piston seal is distorted or eroded, repairing technicians replace the piston seal along with the bulged cylinder barrel.
  • Piston rods – Piston rods in the cylinder are checked for cracks or bends. In case the rods are bent, the technicians straighten the same in a press without damaging the chrome plating. Also, the technicians check the chrome plating on the surface of the piston rods. In case of minor scratches, a fine polishing is done. However, if the chrome plating is completely pitted, then re-plating or replacing the piston rods is normally suggested.
  • Cylinder Head – The cylinder head contains an integrated rod sealing arrangement, which contributes to the overall functioning of the hydraulic cylinder. Hence, technicians in the hydraulic cylinder repair center check the head carefully for any kinds of scoring on the seal arrangement.
  • Cylinder Barrel – Even a nominal level of pitting or scoring in the cylinder barrel affects the functioning of the piston road/seal. Scoring which is less than 0.004 inches deep can be rectified using an engine-cylinder honing tool. However, pitching more than 0.010 inches deep is considered little problematic. In this case, technicians go for replacing the barrel, but with the consent of the client.
  • Pistons – The piston is carefully checked for cracks or scoring. Minor scoring on the outside diameter of the piston would not affect its overall functioning. However, pistons that are meant for heavy duty applications are more likely to suffer from severe damage due to high loads on the piston rod. Technicians closely examine the amount of scoring on the piston, and take decisions on whether to replacing the component or repair it after discussing with the client.

Besides these crucial parts that are more liable to damage, technicians in a hydraulic cylinder repair center check other parts such as:

  • Spherical Ball Bushings
  • Spherical Rod Eye
  • MP Detachable Mounts
  • Rod Eyes/Rod Clevis
  • Pivot Pins
  • Cylinder base connection
  • Internal Threaded Ductile Heads
  • Cylinder Head Caps
  • Butt Plates
  • Alignment Coupler
  • Ports and Fittings

Once the parts are checked and failures are detected, the findings are explained in detail to the client. Upon the receipt of consent from the client after he/she verifies the findings, the technicians commence the repairing or refurbishment processes.
